Rather than try to explain where these six disks came from myself, let me just post what RB had to say about them when he sent them to me.

Hi Ken,

I finally got around to making WAV files of my 1977-78 CBS Radio Mystery Theater reels. It is still a "work in progress" -- I'll probably be fooling around with these tapes the rest of my life (or the rest of my reel-to-reel deck's life!) I wanted to send copies of these to you for preservation and distribution as you see fit.

They have had some minimal processing within the limits of Audacity. It doesn't have a particularly good noise removal tool (in my opinion). It tends to leave "artifacts". I did do some speed correction and a bit of eq, normalizing, removal of some clicks and pops, added complete intro and closing theme where missing, and have added in material from the 2007 distro files to some programs that were incomplete. I tried to match speed and eq as closely as possible, but I'm not greatly skilled in digital processing. The files with substantial added material have a __ (double underscore) after the title.

As I told you before, these shows contain no news or commercials and just a few station ids. I was young, unemployed, and trying to conserve reel tape! Several of the reels were multiple scraps of tape spliced together! All were recorded on an RCA stereo reel-to-reel deck at 1 7/8ips. These little 3 inch reels in little cardboard boxes sat in a Budweiser beer box (appropriate, considering Budweiser sponsored CBSRMT) in the barn for almost 30 years to the month until I finally found the cbsrmt group and remembered them. They were recorded from WLNH-FM, Laconia, NH which was primarily a music station. There were a few nights when the dj forgot to record the line feed from CBS and the show didn't air. More often, they wold miss the first minute or two of the show. The station did not always come in that well either. It was about 50 miles--and several mountains--away and required use of a rooftop antenna to receive here. Still does!
